Another Form

In this project, I documented my process of converting chicken legs into mushrooms. Based on thinking about the form of food, I set up this speculative work environment as a food processing lab. Here, the forms of food can be transformed, providing more possibilities for food processing.

Brief

We use the phrase "making space", to mean a space where something, or a piece of something, is made, or processed. By asking for a "speculative" project, we want you to complicate or imagine beyond familiar notions of making and/or what constitutes a making space.

You will need to consider the tools, processes, and context of your making space, and figure out how you create and communicate these elements. Your space must be primarily a physical space, but you can introduce electronic virtual aspects if necessary. You do not need to build an entire space; you are staging for the view of a single fixed camera. This constraint should allow you to be strategic and efficient about what elements you include and create, and how you compose, stage, and give life to your designed space.

Flow Diagram

In order to turn cooked food into raw food, I decided to take a video of cooking and then play it reversely. I combed through each of the movements and consciously broke them down to make reverse movements in a great order and reduce the abruptness of the video.

The final video should be:

Therefore, my action should be:

Preparation

To make it easier to turn the chicken legs into mushrooms, I chose an intermediate medium to help me shape the two objects. I chose potatoes and added flour and milk to help hold the shape.

Remove the meat from the chicken thighs, keeping the bones as props.

Scene building: The form and nature of the food touches on the form of the elements themselves, so there is a certain amount of chemistry involved, so I tried out a lot of lab equipment like test tubes to make the place look like a lab. In addition, I placed mushroom props to make the place look like a "mushroom imitation" process.
